Many people I advise who are going to work for a large company seem to do everything they can to fit in with their perception of the "ideal job candidate". They get all the right pieces of paper, the right internships, and dress, speak and behave like some kind of faceless office robot work drone. They supress their personality and creativity in order to fit in with the "company culture". They blindly do what they are told, without thinking. They never question anything. Their lack of progress in their "career" is blamed on external factors, such as the economy, bad management, too much competition.
It does not have to be like this. Look at any successful person, in any industry, in any country in the world, and you will notice they do not share any of these traits. Successful people walk their own paths. Successful people are not afraid to question the status quo, they live and breathe shaking things up when they are not working. Successful people are not trapped by fear- fear of losing their job, fear of what their peers will thing, fear of failure. They have learned to confront this fear, and act anyway. Successful people do not care if their colleagues like them, but they do care that they respect them. SUccessful people are not scared of the unknown, they embrace it. Successful people are alive in their work, they don´t just turn up and wait to go home.
When will you start behaving like a successful person?
